This webinar will examine problem gambling among U.S. military service members and veterans, with a focus on awareness, clinical comorbidities, screening, treatment, and engagement in care. Dave Yeager will discuss his lived experience and advocacy efforts aimed at increasing awareness of gambling-related harms within active-duty military and veteran communities. Shane Kraus will review common psychiatric and behavioral health comorbidities associated with problem gambling among military and veteran populations, including substance use, trauma-related concerns, and suicide risk. The webinar will also highlight evidence-informed screening and treatment approaches for problem gambling within military and veteran settings. Together, Yeager and Kraus will discuss strategies for engaging service members and veterans in care, reducing barriers to treatment, and advancing ongoing efforts related to awareness, access to services, and research funding.

Dave Yeager
Dave Yeager is an eleven-year veteran of the United States Army and in recovery for a gambling addiction. Dave is the host of Fall In: The Problem Gambling Podcast for Military Service Members and Veterans and the author of Fall In: A Veteran with a Gambling Addiction.
Dave is a member of the military committee for the National Council on Problem Gambling. Dave speaks often and uses his story to help raise awareness about gambling addiction and its impact on military service members and veterans.
Dave has a BS in Human Services and has completed 30 hours toward a Masters in Social Work. Dave has been a lived experience and veteran advisor for Kindbridge Research Institute since 2020 and began as a trainer and training developer in July of 2023. Dave is also a recovery coach with Kindbridge Behavioral Health.
Shane Kraus
Dr
Shane W. Kraus is a licensed clinical psychologist and expert in psychopathology, substance use disorders, gambling disorders, and compulsive sexual behavior disorder (CSBD). He is an associate professor of psychology who has published over 250 scholarly works on substance use disorders/behavioral addictions (e.g., gambling), psychopathology, compulsive sexual behavior, and trauma. Dr. Kraus received his PhD in clinical psychology from Bowling Green State University in 2013. He completed his addiction fellowship at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System and Yale School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry in 2015.
