Join us on April 29th from 12:00-1:00 PM CT for Intergenerational Impacts of Gambling in Asian American Families Through Storytelling with Jane Wong!
Poet and memoirist Jane Wong, author of Meet Me Tonight in Atlantic City, will reflect on how writing her memoir led her to explore the broader cultural context of gambling harm in Asian American families. Drawing from personal experience, research, and poetry, Jane will discuss the intergenerational impact of gambling addiction, the stigma that can make these conversations difficult within families and communities, and how storytelling can open space for healing and dialogue.
The session will include a poetry reading and a passage from her memoir, followed by time for reflection, conversation, and discussion with participants.
Objectives:
- Explore the intergenerational impacts of gambling harm within Asian American families through lived experience and storytelling.
- Examine how cultural stigma and silence can shape conversations about gambling addiction in Asian American communities.
- Identify how storytelling and creative expression can support healing, awareness, and community dialogue around gambling harm.
