This presentation will explore why some clients drop out of problem gambling treatment prematurely, and what providers can do to help them stay engaged. Using findings from Oregon’s problem gambling treatment service system, we’ll review common reasons for early dropout, factors that support positive treatment outcomes, and provide practical, evidence-informed strategies to improve client retention.

Glenn Yamagata
Glenn is a consultant with Problem Gambling Solutions, Inc. and the Executive Director of the Oregon Council on Problem Gambling. He has spent the past 10 years working on problem-gambling harm-reduction systems and projects, co-authoring more than 20 presentations and reports. He serves as a Director for the National Council on Problem Gambling and as Treasurer for Voices of Problem Gambling Recovery. Glenn holds an M.Phil. in Economics and an M.A. in Statistics from Yale University.
Paige Vasquez
Dr.
Paige is a licensed psychologist in Oregon and completed a PhD in Clinical Psychology at Pacific University in Hillsboro, OR, in 2023, with an emphasis in Latino/x psychology. Since 2018, Paige has worked in behavioral and cognitive research and is particularly passionate about culturally responsive and community-engaged research methodologies. She has worked with Dr. Marotta at Problem Gambling Solutions, Inc. since 2021, assisting with and leading problem gambling research projects. She is also a 2025 Research Fellow at the Oregon Council on Problem Gambling.
