Please join us on August 26th from 11:00 am-12:00 pm CT with Brent Van Ham for Rural Communities and Problem Gambling: Emerging Trends and Effective Responses!
As gambling continues to evolve, rural communities face unique challenges in prevention, treatment, and recovery. This session will explore emerging gambling trends, the impact of social determinants of health, and practical strategies that build on the strengths and resilience of rural communities to support effective prevention and recovery efforts. This session will discuss evolving gambling trends and the opportunities for prevention and recovery in rural areas.
Objectives:
- Describe the recent evolution of gambling into new areas, with new platforms which may reach rural people more easily than prevention and recovery services.
- Discuss Social Determinants of Health in rural areas, and discuss issues that may intersect with problem gambling, such as social isolation, substance use disorder and poverty.
- Identify aspects of rural living that may be protective. Discuss interventions that are effective and how we can work to bolster them.
